Kush - Sacred Forever

In this work the artist mixed the soil of Africa and his own blood in the paint and blended it into the work. In this piece he expresses his sacred bloodline, his DNA, and the earth of the motherland. His composition is alive with the beauty and depth of the continent. African masks, leaders, women warriors, sisterhood and strength are woven in this work. The artist meticulously collected images from national geographic magazines, newspapers, and obscure books over a period of 8 months to pull imagery that represents all aspects of the sacred continent; representing the east, west, north, the south, and the soul.

Been Free: Incarcerated Artists NFT Project is created in partnership with Hillman Grad’s co-founders, Lena Waithe and Rishi Rajani, and Huma House, a nonprofit organization in Los Angeles that supports the needs of currently incarcerated and formerly incarcerated people through art and creativity. Been Free elevates the work of four artists, Kenneth Webb, Gary Harrell, Asia Johnson, and Kush each who have experienced incarceration and have embraced the power of art to tell their unique stories.
